In September 2016, the TB CARE II project held a five-day meeting on the Lessons Learned in the Implementation of the FAST Strategy in Vietnam. During the meeting, participants explored and analyzed the FAST implementation experience in select countries, developed strategies, and agreed upon specific actions to further roll-out the FAST strategy. Seventy-seven participants from ten countries attended the meeting, including representatives from Ministries of Health and National TB Control Programmes, CDC Vietnam, Partners in Health, USAID, WHO, and TB CARE II implementing partners.
The meeting provided an opportunity for those involved in the development and implementation of the FAST strategy in Vietnam to share their success and experience with key stakeholders from countries that can become FAST champions and initiate FAST implementation in TB burdened areas. Participants were educated on the FAST strategy, FAST as a method to protect healthcare workers, previous FAST implementation experiences, information systems that support FAST, and the implementation of ultraviolet germicidal methods for infection control. Discussions also included how to overcome implementation challenges, measure the impact of FAST, and FAST branding.
